Ira Matteson (1917-)
For many years a member of the faculty of Kent State University, Matteson began his career as a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome where he concentrated on drawing and the study of the figure. A strong commitment to human and natural forms with a powerful graphic look is expressed in his silhouettes created for the Putnam Collection, such as Back (1981) in cor-ten steel and Lotus ( 1980) in painted steel, and has remained his principle interest. A similar work, Standing Man is located in Cascade Plaza in Akron. Matteson exhibited frequently in the May Show for more than a decade.
